Additional Stones
We have extensive knowledge and experience with other stones also. Some more popular ones are Limestone, Slates, Travertines and Onyxes. We have also created custom counters from bluestone, soapstone and sandstones.
Travertines are porous by nature and fragile. Usually they are filled and honed to create a consistent level surface. Travertines are chosen because they look very natural and tend to bring the outside in or inside out.ned (Satin Finish)
Onyxes are similar to marbles but differ in that they softer and have translucent properties. Onyxes are generally more expensive due primarily to the difficulty in procuring, transporting, and fabricating, but to some offer more possibilities in design.
Slate is very hard and brittle and has a very low water absorption coefficient and therefore it is used extensively outdoors. Because it can be very consistent in color it is also preferred in fireplace surrounds.
Limestone is softer then marbles and is therefore used extensively for bathrooms and fireplace surrounds and mantels. It is a very consistent material and therefore easy to work with, easy to plan around etc..
